Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is widely recognized as the most effective method to affect positive change in a person’s attitude and behavior. It’s a short term form of psychotherapy used to help both adults and children. the focus is on current issues, symptoms and solutions. Weekly therapy sessions are the norm in addition to daily exercises designed to help the patient apply newly learned skills at home, in school or at work.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy is also among the most rapid forms of therapy in terms of results. CBT is briefer than other forms of therapy because of its highly instructive and goal centered nature. The fundamental principle is that thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, but they can be changed.
Our therapeutic intervention works for individuals of all ages. Services are available for individuals, couples, families, and groups.

Cognitive-behavioral therapists at DAIC create a good, trusting relationship with clients, and help them learn rational self-counseling skills. Clients are able to change their troubling issues or behavior because they learn how to think differently and act on that learning. The therapists listen, teach, and encourage positive thought patterns and the client expresses concerns, learns coping strategies, and implements the new strategies.

Specific techniques and concepts are taught during each session and the therapist focuses on the client's goals. We help guide our clients to change their negative perceptions and attitudes and assist them in adopting a more positive proactive approach to stressful situations. Our therapists do not tell their clients what to do; instead they teach their clients the best way of achieving their goals. CBT is based on the scientifically supported premise that most emotional and behavioral actions are learned. The goal of therapy is to help clients unlearn their unwanted behavior and to learn a new, more positive way.

This educational emphasis of CBT has an additional benefit of creating long-term results. When people are open to broadening their perspective it provides them with many more opportunities for growth.
